Philanthropic Mission

We strive to build a better world by strengthening the ability of mission-driven organizations and philanthropists to achieve breakthrough results in addressing society’s most important challenges.

Our Heritage

Our team experience with philanthropy began decades ago with the J&B Feinberg Family Foundation, Joe Feinberg’s private family foundation committed to effective community and cultural investments through its philanthropy.

At Feinberg Stein, we believe that our experience as wealth advisors and portfolio managers, as well as our work with the Feinberg Family Office and the Feinberg Family Foundation, gives us a distinct understanding of an organization’s approach to stewardship, values and the importance of having a long-term plan.

The future of philanthropy may rest on our ability to ensure future generations of philanthropy through education and tangible results through impact investing.

Making an Impact

Today, we help the family foundation focus on investment, in addition to charity, to support programs in the areas of early childhood development, literacy enrichment, homelessness and hunger, access to health care, medical research, Jewish communal causes, and the Chicago and Los Angeles arts communities. The family foundation is most known for its relationship with the Northwestern University Feinberg Medical School, South Chicago community building, and the recent projects with the LA Kings Care Foundation.

How J&B Feinberg Family Foundation Progressed Medical Research

After a near-death experience and a miraculous live-saving procedure at the Northwestern University Hospital, Reuben Feinberg, one of the four Feinberg brothers, made a $75 million gift (the largest single donation to a Chicago-area university at the time) to the institution for the medical school expansion, teaching, and research.

The relationship between the Feinberg Family and Northwestern University continues to grow stronger to this day, with a combined giving of $120 million for the Feinberg School of Medicine, Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute, Clinical Neurosciences Institute, and the Feinberg Pavilion of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Building Communities

The Family Foundation is dedicated to helping underserved communities for the benefit of the next generations by providing opportunities to even the playing field.

The underserved communities of focus and development are primarily in the South Chicago area but have recently expanded to Central Los Angeles.

Supported programs range from homelessness and the underserved communities, to providing support, tools, education, and opportunities to children.

Feinberg Family Impact Circle:

  • Provides economically challenged high school students with an opportunity to participate in interscholastic sports and have access to high-quality sports medicine care and services designed to improve health and ensure safety.

  • Gives young African American and Hispanic fathers the skills and support they need to be better fathers for their children and better men in their communities.

  • The largest completely tuition-free music school serving Chicago metropolitan area children focuses on removing barriers to access for students who otherwise would not have the opportunity of intensive music instruction.

  • Dedicated to exposing girls in Chicago, ages 10-18 years old, to (STEM) science, technology, engineering, and math.

  • Provides hope and opportunity for at-risk or homeless youth by assisting them in permanently leaving the streets, securing stable housing, and building self-sufficient, satisfying lives.

  • Helps young people from all backgrounds to understand the importance of their own stories and those of others so that they can pursue the path they choose and work to make their communities more just and equitable.

Our team is proud to continue the legacy of the Feinberg Family Foundation in helping bring next-gen developments in medical research through the University, as well as helping underserved communities in Chicago and Los Angeles.
